Hello,
My name is Raymond Greene. I am a teacher with Clark County Unified School District in Las Vegas, NV. I moved to Las Vegas from Big Bear Lake, CA in 2014 and became a substitute teacher. I went through the CCSD ARL program in 2015 and became a contracted teacher. I teach 6th grade science at West Preperatory Academy at Charles I. West Hall. Previously, I taught at Findlay Middle School and was a long term substitute for a semester teaching high school chemistry. I am licensed in Physical Science 7-12 and hope to add Biological Science next year. I graduated from Humboldt State University in 1994.
How did your personality affect your choice of content area?
My personality is leadership driven. I tend to be an introvert unless I am with close friends or family. I am the most logical person I know. I tend to be driven by truths. I do well in situations where there is one correct answer. This is why I believe teaching Science has been such a natural fit. I scored an INTP on the Metarasa personality page test.
How does or will your personality affect your relationships with your students?
I am driven by the idea of giving back to the community. I feel that I have been lucky to be where I am and have the knowledge and desire to help young people realize there is a bright future for them if they want it. I purposely have chosen to work in an inner city school where students are disadvantaged and where many are food insecure. My goal is to make a difference in the lives of students.
How will your teaching and learning style affect your teaching and your students' abilities to be successful?
Teaching is a second career for me. I decided to become a teacher after selling a company and spending time working in the ski industry teaching children how to snowboard and ski. I have realized that in order to be a good teacher, I will need to be humble and have a student mentality about learning the art of teaching. I see many teachers spend their entire career learning. I hope that I can use my life experience to assist in my journey to become a quality teacher.
